2018 Tryouts

Parents and Athletes:

We are really looking forward to another great year of Tiger Tennis as it is fast approaching. This year tryouts will be held on this upcoming Monday, February 26, at 2:30 at the OHS courts. Obviously having tryouts at the end of February can make for some difficult weather, I will try and keep the boys updated as best as I can as to any changes in the plan for the upcoming week.

Just a reminder to please go to registermyathlete.com and complete your athletes registration prior to tryouts. If your athlete shows up to tryouts without having their registration complete I will be forced to turn them away until they get it completed.

This year I have decided not to do a parent meeting prior to tryouts like I did last year. This year I will be doing the parent meeting after the team has been set with the parents of the boys that have made the team. If you know of anyone that is trying out, that may not know about this blog, or about the tryout information, will you please show them to this blog.

Thank you all so much for your support, lets make it a great year!

JV Region

This year the JV region tournament was held at Corner Canyon High School. On an absolutely beautiful day, our team had a great day of tennis. A couple of quick highlights from the day. First, brothers David and Matthias Hulme, got down 3-7, in a proset to 8, and battled all the way back to tie things up at 8-8 so the match headed into a tie breaker to seven. After quickly getting down 1-4, it was once again time to show mental toughness and battle back. After many times back and forth, they were able to pull out the win 14-12! What an amazing victory for them, a match they will not soon forget.

Another great highlight of the day was the play of Zach Thorpe and Brady Crane, who were able to dominate their first two round to make it to the championship round. In the final, they ran into a very tough Timpview team losing a close battle. What a way to end their season by taking second place!

I was so proud of the way all of the JV team played in the tournament, it was a great day for Orem High Tennis. All of the JV players had such great seasons, only losing five JV matches all year is an incredible accomplishment! Great job JV!!!

End of Regular Season Update

On April 25th, we travelled to Provo for another match. Despite the threat of rain, we were able to get their and complete the match before any poor weather. This match was a total team effort from top to bottom with the varsity team winning 5-0. Congratulations to Henry Quigley and John McCann for an amazing win at the first doubles position.

Next we played cross town rival Timpanogos at home. With the temperature in the low 40's and the wind gusting upwards of 25 miles per hour, we still decided to tough it out. Despite not getting the results we wanted, with the varsity team losing 2-3, I was very proud of the team of our team for showing true toughness in extremely tough conditions, and for JV sweeping all of their matches. Great job JV team!

The following week, we had the opportunity of traveling to Skyridge, the newest high school in the region. On a beautiful, slightly windy day (once again wind, ugh!), Varsity was able to pull out a 3-2 victory, and once again JV swept all of their matches. I would definitely say, as a team, this was our best match as a team top to bottom. Once again congratulations to Henry Quigly and John McCann for their come from behind win at first doubles, which ultimately ended up clinching the match for the Varsity team. Great match boys!

Our last regular season match had us playing cross town rival Mountain View. This was the first match of the year where we were able to sweep all of our matches from top to bottom. All of the boys played great matches and took care of business quite easily. Nothing better to finish the season than dominating Mountain View!
