Season Update

After a long break between matches, mostly due to poor weather, we were finally able to play Corner Canyon at home on April 13th. Despite the incredible wind gusts, we were able to come away with the victory 3-2 and get our first region win. Congratulations to Christian Craig at 1st singles, Tanner Reese at 2nd singles, and Ian and Hunter Chiniquy at 2nd doubles who all came away with varsity wins. Our Junior Varsity team also found great success in their matches, not losing any match.

On April 18th we were able to host Region/State favorite Timpview at Orem High. Despite the match not ending quite the way we wanted, there were definitely some highlights of the match for us. The first of which coming from Tanner Reese, who ended up barely losing an extremely close, three and a half hour match at second singles. Our lone victory of the day came from Daniel Benson who was able to win at the 1st JV position. Great job Daniel!

On Friday, April 21st, we were able to play a postponed match against Alta in Sandy. In this match we were able to find a lot of success on the court, winning varsity by a score of 4-1, and not losing a single JV match. Match of the day goes to Ian and Hunter Chiniquy who battled back from down a set, down a break multiple times in the third set, the other team serving for the match on two separate occasions and the entire Alta team attempting to frustrate them.  Once they found themselves in a third set tiebreaker, there was no doubt who was going to come out on top. Great job Ian and Hunter!

With just four regular season matches remaining, lets all hope for good fortune in missing storms and being able to play our matches easily! I have updated the schedule post to show the dates for JV region, Varsity region, and Varsity State. Wish the boys good luck as they play the Provo Bulldogs tomorrow, Tuesday the 25th, at Provo high.

Go Tigers!

Duel in the Desert Tournament

Congratulations to everyone on a great trip to St. George!
I wanted to share a quick summary of our trip.

*Varsity had the opportunity to play in a "team format" tournament, with 7 other teams from around the state.

FRIDAY
First match of the weekend we played Viewmont. Unfortunately we didn't come away with a win. However, Ian & Hunter Chiniquy won their doubles match in a 3rd set tie-breaker.

The second match of the day, we played Hurricane. Congrats to all 5 varsity spots for a tough win. John McCann & Henry Quigley came out on top with a great win!

Our last match on Friday we played Pineview High School.
Christian Craig won a tough match at first singles.
Tanner Reese came out in dominating fashion and won 6-0, 6-0.
Conner Richards outlasted his opponent in a 7-6, 6-3 victory.

This team win, put us into the winner's bracket for the second day of the tournament!

SATURDAY
First match was semi-finals against Snow Canyon High School, number 1 seed from Group B.
Tanner Reese took care of business quickly and won 6-0, 6-0 - once again!
Connor Richards got the best of his opponent in another steady victory.
With the score tied 2-2 and the balance of the match resting on Ian & Hunter Chiniquy, they scraped their way to a 6-1, 7-6 match-clinching victory. This win sent the team to the championship match.

In the Championship match, we played Viewmont once again for a chance at redemption. Viewmont came out strong getting the best of the first 4 matches on court. With our last match of the tournament and their undefeated record on the line, Ian & Hunter Chiniquy pulled out a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win, maintaining their undefeated record on the season.

*JV had the opportunity to play in an "individual format" tournament. Each player had the opportunity to play 4 matches over the course of 2 days. We finished with the best overall record of all the participating JV teams.
